Granorte cork floors are press and compression resistant.

Cork flooring is resilient to pressure and compression. Cork flooring can be pressed and compressed up to 40% and still return back to its normal shape due to characteristics of the cellular structure of cork. It can withstand heavy foot traffic and the abuse of furniture leg pressure. It can withstand heavy pedestrian traffic and abuse of the impression of furniture.

Advantages and properties of cork flooring

Lightness:
Around 80% of the cork volume consists of gaseous matter, which makes cork extremely light and buoyant.

Elasticity and elasticity:
The cell membranes are very flexible and make the cork both compressible and elastic. These properties, along with other properties, largely explain how cork has become indispensable for the production of plugs.
When cork is exposed to intense pressure, the gas in the cells is compressed and decreases significantly in volume. When released from the pressure cork, it immediately regains its original volume.

Impermeability:
The presence of suberin (a complex mixture of fatty acids and heavy organic alcohol) makes cork impermeable to both liquids and gases. As a result, it does not rot and can therefore be considered one of the best seals available.

Insulation:
Cork has one of the best thermal and acoustic insulation capacities of all natural substances. This is due to the fact that the gaseous elements are sealed in tiny, impermeable compartments that are insulated from each other by a moisture-resistant material.

Fire-insulating:
Cork is a natural fire retardant as it does not spread flames and does not release toxic gases during combustion.

Durability:
Cork is also remarkably wear-resistant and has a high coefficient of friction. Thanks to the honeycomb structure, it is less affected by impacts and friction than other hard surfaces.

Hypoallergenic:
Cork does not absorb dust and, consequently, does not cause allergies nor pose a risk to asthma sufferers.

Cork is a natural raw material that is 100% biodegradable, recyclable and renewable.
